How to Become a More Likeable Boss

Boss 1Becoming a more likeable boss can sometimes be a difficult process to describe. It can be one characteristic that facilitates great communication and great employee relationships. It can be the special way that you show confidence in among your team. These and other events can become more easily managed with training.

While many who enter into management and leadership roles want to be genuinely liked by the workers they supervise, seeking popularity for its own sake can be a dead-end path. Many have tried to lead while seeking popularity only to find that, indeed, they are loved but not respected. Becoming a more likeable boss however does not mean you have to sacrifice respect. However, being a likeable boss and a respected boss does mean you have to learn to be more effective.

Whether you prefer an authoritative leadership style, a lenient one, or something in between, one factor that can truly enhance your effectiveness in leadership is to see yourself as serving the needs of your employees even as you serve the needs of your company or organization. Often these two sets of needs will coincide. The needs of your employees are the needs of a well-run organization as well. When they do contradict, seeing yourself as a kind of servant to your employees can help you to better weigh your priorities in both the long and short terms.

In our How to Become a More Likeable Boss Workshop, you will begin to see how important it is to develop better managerial skills. By managing and looking at the way people interact and seeing things in a new light, you will improve on almost every aspect of your career.

Teamwork & Team Building

Teamwork & Team Building

For most of us, teamwork is a part of everyday life. Whether it’s at home, in the community, or at work, we are often expected to be a functional part of a performing team. Having a strong team will benefit any organization and will lead to more successes than not.

Success is determined by a wide range of factors. When we are given a project or an assignment we are also usually given a metric to which we can gauge the success of it. Having a strong team will benefit any organization and will lead to more successes than not.

What makes up a good team? Well, that question is open to interpretation. In our workshop  we will start with the first step in the team building process which is forming. We will discuss what makes up that stage and how each person in the team fits into the process.

Our Teamwork And Team Building workshop will encourage you to explore the different aspects of a team, as well as ways that you can become a top-notch team performer. You will be given the details and concepts of what makes up a team, and what factors into being a successful team and team member.

Workshop Objectives:

• Describe the concept of a team, and its factors for success
• Explain the four phases of the Tuckman team development model and define their characteristics
• List the three types of teams
• Describe actions to take as a leader – and as a follower for each of the four phases (Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing)
• Discuss the uses, benefits and disadvantages of various team-building activities
• Describe several team-building activities that you can use, and in what settings
• Follow strategies for setting and leading team meetings
• Detail problem-solving strategies using the Six Thinking Hats model — and one consensus-building approach to solving team problems
• List actions to do — and those to avoid — when encouraging teamwork

Increasing Self Awareness

Self Awareness 3

Self-awareness is an important part of everyday life. It transfers over to your personal, social, physical and work life. It can help one gain a better understanding of themselves, and how to live a better, more fulfilling life. When working to deepen one’s own self-awareness, it is important to fully engage yourself. One should take the time and proper steps, to fully become self-aware.

A vital way of becoming more effective in both business and life is by becoming more self-aware. If you can become aware of your self – your strengths and your weaknesses – then, you can become aware of the effects you create.

Only once you know your effects can you know how to change them, or even whether you should. Implementing the guidelines that we have outlined in our Self-awareness workshop is the first step in a continual process of deepening your awareness of your self and the effects you create. Becoming more effective can only deepen your rewards in both your professional and personal life.

One aspect of awareness of your mental self is being aware of your thinking style. Psychologists differentiate between two types of thinking styles: global and linear. Neither thinking style is inherently better than the other, however. These terms merely describe ways in which people process information. Global thinkers tend to be big picture thinkers. They’re more interested in the theory or concept behind something than they are in the minute details. Conversely, linear thinkers are more interested in the details than in the big picture. A linear thinker will tend to prefer step by step processes for doing things, rather than an overarching theory about them.

With our Deepening Self Awareness workshop, you will learn how beneficial becoming more self aware can be. A highly self aware person will become more equipped to deal with daily life and its challenges. Through this workshop, you will gain a new perspective on your self and your emotions, and become a valuable member to society.

Our Workshop Objectives:

• Define the self and different aspects of the self

• Learn from introspection

• Understand the nature and value of emotions

• Appreciate yourself

• Appreciate others

• Improve effectiveness

Creative Problem Solving

Inproblem solving 2 the past few decades, psychologists and business people alike have discovered that successful problem solvers tend to use the same type of process to identify and implement the solutions to their problems. This process works for any kind of problem, large or small.

Creative Problem Solving has evolved since its inception in the 1950s. However, it is always a structured approach to finding and implementing solutions.

The Creative Problem Solving process involves creativity. The problem solvers come up with solutions that are innovative, rather than obtaining help to learn the answers or implementing standard procedures.

The Creative Problem Solving process is at work anytime you identify solutions that have value or that somehow improve a situation for someone.

When tackling a new problem, it is important to talk to anyone who might be familiar with the problem. You can gather a great deal of information by asking questions of different people who might be affected by or know about the problem.

Darlene Hunter & Associates Creative Problem Solving workshop will give you an overview of the entire Creative Problem Solving process, as well as key problem solving tools that you can use every day. Skills such as brainstorming, information gathering, analyzing data, and identifying resources will be covered throughout the workshop.

Workshop Objectives:workshops

• Understand problems and the creative problem solving process
• Identify types of information to gather and key questions to ask in problem solving
• Identify the importance of defining a problem correctly
• Identify and use four different problem definition tools
• Write concrete problem statements
• Use basic brainstorming tools to generate ideas for solutions
• Evaluate potential solutions against criteria, including cost/benefit analysis and group voting
• Perform a final analysis to select a solution
• Understand the roles that fact and intuition play in selecting a solution
• Understand the need to refine the shortlist and redefine it
• Understand how to identify the tasks and resources necessary to implement solutions
• Evaluate and adapt solutions to reality
