Teamwork & Team Building

For most of us, teamwork is a part of everyday life. Whether it’s at home, in the community, or at work, we are often expected to be a functional part of a performing team. Having a strong team will benefit any organization and will lead to more successes than not.

Success is determined by a wide range of factors. When we are given a project or an assignment we are also usually given a metric to which we can gauge the success of it. Having a strong team will benefit any organization and will lead to more successes than not.

What makes up a good team? Well, that question is open to interpretation. In our workshop  we will start with the first step in the team building process which is forming. We will discuss what makes up that stage and how each person in the team fits into the process.

Our Teamwork And Team Building workshop will encourage you to explore the different aspects of a team, as well as ways that you can become a top-notch team performer. You will be given the details and concepts of what makes up a team, and what factors into being a successful team and team member.

• Explain the four phases of the Tuckman team development model and define their characteristics
• List the three types of teams
• Describe actions to take as a leader – and as a follower for each of the four phases (Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing)
• Discuss the uses, benefits and disadvantages of various team-building activities
• Describe several team-building activities that you can use, and in what settings
• Follow strategies for setting and leading team meetings

Creative Problem Solving

Inproblem solving 2 the past few decades, psychologists and business people alike have discovered that successful problem solvers tend to use the same type of process to identify and implement the solutions to their problems. This process works for any kind of problem, large or small.

Creative Problem Solving has evolved since its inception in the 1950s. However, it is always a structured approach to finding and implementing solutions.

The Creative Problem Solving process involves creativity. The problem solvers come up with solutions that are innovative, rather than obtaining help to learn the answers or implementing standard procedures.

The Creative Problem Solving process is at work anytime you identify solutions that have value or that somehow improve a situation for someone.

When tackling a new problem, it is important to talk to anyone who might be familiar with the problem. You can gather a great deal of information by asking questions of different people who might be affected by or know about the problem.

Darlene Hunter & Associates Creative Problem Solving workshop will give you an overview of the entire Creative Problem Solving process, as well as key problem solving tools that you can use every day. Skills such as brainstorming, information gathering, analyzing data, and identifying resources will be covered throughout the workshop.

Workshop Objectives:workshops

• Understand problems and the creative problem solving process
• Identify types of information to gather and key questions to ask in problem solving
• Identify the importance of defining a problem correctly
• Identify and use four different problem definition tools
• Write concrete problem statements
• Use basic brainstorming tools to generate ideas for solutions
• Evaluate potential solutions against criteria, including cost/benefit analysis and group voting
• Perform a final analysis to select a solution
• Understand the roles that fact and intuition play in selecting a solution
• Understand the need to refine the shortlist and redefine it
• Understand how to identify the tasks and resources necessary to implement solutions
• Evaluate and adapt solutions to reality

The Other Silent Killer, Depression

silent killer in red.jpg

The Other Silent Killer, Depression

I have always heard that the silent killer was hypertension, or what we commonly call “High Blood Pressure. Most of us do not have a problem talking about hypertension.  In the African American community we not only talked about “high blood pressure” but at times we have joked about it.

When it comes to depression, however not many of us talk about it.   It is something that we keep under the carpet.  We do not openly admit that we suffer from depression and in most cases we do not ever share that ourselves, our children or loved ones are suffering from depression.  It is so very sad to think that people who are so, so sad inside cannot tell anyone how they feel.  We work so hard to be ok for everyone else, while being simply broken on the inside.

Yesterday I was upset to hear that MarShawn M. McCarrrel ll, Black Lives Matters activist, killed himself on the steps of the Ohio statehouse. My first thoughts were why a 23 year old young man would decide that he no longer wanted to be here and the only alternative he had was to kill himself. I believe that so many of our young people are suffering from depression and have said what MarShawn M. McCarrrel ll said in his final post, “My demons won today.”

In the African American community it’s very difficult to suffer from depression and let others within the family know. We have always been seen as strong and resilient and been told if you fall down, just get up.  I am a firm believer that a positive attitude in life is critically important.  I teach it, coach others with that in mind and practice it every day.  However, we have to do better and help our children and loved ones know that it’s ok to admit that they are depressed.  We have to be able to identify the signs and get them help.  It is not something to be ashamed of.  There are many reasons why we can be depressed, and not one of them is a reason to hide it.

Depression is a serious medical condition that can hold you back from moving forward. No one knows for certain what causes depression; experts believe that depression occurs when certain chemicals in the brain are out of balance.

Today, I am screaming from the top of my lungs. We must talk to our kids, watch their behaviors, seek help and guidance for them and assure them that it’s ok for them to tell you and anyone else that they are sad inside or just not feeling themselves.

Let’s not let this silent killer, depression take one more life.

He That Began a Good Work in You

He That Began a Good Work in You Image

It has been said in many conversations that the ministry, work and direction in which we are going in has been directed by the Lord Jesus Christ. That He has placed a will, desire, drive or direction in you to move forward towards a certain path.  You have prayed and continued to seek His guidance and direction, but at times when the enemy got in your path you questioned if this truly is the way and direction that the Lord wanted you to go.

I just want to encourage you and let you know that the ministry and your work in the Lord has not been in vain. Lives have been changed and souls have been saved. You are making a difference in the lives of the people that you serve. Do not give up and and do not give in. You know that the Lord has opened doors and given favor where needed, He has blessed and you were able to see His hand in the mist of all that has occurred.

So today I want to remind you what Paul said to the Philippians… He was fully pursued when He told them what the Lord was going to do. Paul was completely convinced of the truth of what he said. He had no  doubt on the subject.

He stated in Philippians 1:6…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Paul was talking about the work of the Lord and the ministry that was being done in Philippi. He said that the LORD would carry it forward to completion; he would perfect it. Meaning that it would be carried through to the end. He would not leave it unfinished. It would not have been started by Him and then forsaken.

Therefore, keep pushing, keep striving, keep doing and keep moving knowing that you are not out there on your own and that the LORD will carry out the good work that He placed in you until  the day when the Lord Jesus will appear to receive his people to himself.

Be blessed,
Darlene

The “F” Factor

The “F” Factor image

I know, when you saw the title, a few things came to mind, but the “F” factor that I am talking about is life changing, it actively contributes to the production of an amazing result.

Many of us have gone through things in our life that we did not think we would get through or even in some cases, did not want to get through. I went through a divorce that I thought would destroy my very personhood. I recall a moment that I just wanted to give up the fight, the hurt and the pain and just go on to glory, but God had a different plan. As time went by I discovered the “F” factor.

My “F” factor was FAITH. Those of us who have read the bible knows what it says about FAITH. We so easily quote the scripture about FAITH “being the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen”. .. But do we really know what it is to walk by FAITH, to live by FAITH and to move by FAITH?

FAITH is believing that all will work out for you, no matter what it looks like, feels like or what others may be saying. FAITH is knowing and believing that God is all wise and knows what He is doing with your life. FAITH is not necessary looking for the person, place or thing that is seen as an obstacle to change or move, but trusting and believing that God can still get the expected outcome that He has designed for your life even with those things still in place.

You see…FAITH is believing without question! When you have FAITH you believe with strong conviction, you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that things will get better and change is on the way. FAITH means that you do not have to see the change happening or have proof that it will occur, you simply have to believe and trust in God and His faithfulness.

So how do you get this FAITH… So glad you asked. The bible says that FAITH comes from hearing and hearing from the word of God.

So my friend, if you are struggling with the things which may happen today, tomorrow and as you move forward in your life and are afraid and uncertain as to what may occur, consider the “F” factor. The bible states that once you have FAITH, which only needs to be in a small amount, you will be able to move mountains.

Matthew 17:20
The Message (MSG)
20 “Because you’re not yet taking God seriously,” said Jesus. “The simple truth is that if you had a mere kernel of faith, a poppy seed, say, you would tell this mountain, ‘Move!’ and it would move. There is nothing you wouldn’t be able to tackle.”

Be blessed!
